First let me declare this is not a review so my foodie friends don’t get mad at me for reviewing a restaurant on opening night. I went, it was good and I’ll tell you why you should go.
Welcome to Richmond, Rappahannock. The plate of food you see above is the Rockfish & Barcat Oyster Bourride with garlic, fennel, potatoes, poached egg & grilled bread in a really tasty broth. It’s um, really damn good. You will get it and you will like it!
An extremely close second was the Grilled Virginia Scallops with braised Oxtail, roasted cauliflower & curry. I want buckets of both of these.
We also had the Grilled Outer Banks Shrimp with green olive aioli and pickled kohlrabi. I personally don’t like olives so maybe that’s why the aioli wasn’t my favorite thing of the night, but the Shrimp were very good and I have never had Kohlrabi before which is a perennial vegetable, and is a low, stout cultivar of cabbage.
We finished the night off with the Seasonal Cobbler (Apple) with vanilla bean ice cream. It hit the spot.
Now you might be asking did you really go to an oyster restaurant and not get oysters? We actually started the meal off with one of each type (Rappahannock, Lynnhaven and Olde Salts). Yes I forgot to take a photo. Doh!
So there you go. This concludes my non-review of Rappahannock.
Conclusion: Go!
